At Lay3rs 3D Printing, we’ve always believed innovation doesn’t stop with hardware. 3D printers, materials, and accessories may be our daily bread, but what really matters is how we use technology to serve our customers better.

That’s why our team recently took part in an AI inspiration session led by Jasper Ebus from Univia, supported by Brainport’s Klik op Morgen subsidy project.

The goal of the day was simple yet ambitious: explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help us work smarter, automate repetitive tasks, and create even more value for the designers, engineers, educators, and businesses we serve.

Why AI is a Natural Next Step for 3D Printing

Our AI journey officially began during the inspiration session with Univia. Jasper guided us through the fundamentals of AI — what it is, what it isn’t, and how it’s already shaping industries around the world.

The session was hands-on and engaging:

  • We explored the different forms of AI and their real-world applications

  • We discussed how to use AI more effectively in daily work

  • We brainstormed where AI could make a difference at Lay3rs

And, in true Lay3rs style, we made time for a sushi break 🍣 — because innovation works best with good food and good energy.

From Ideas to Impact — Our First AI Success

Workshops are great, but results matter. That’s why we’re proud that the very first outcome of the session came almost immediately.

Our CCO, Josh de Lange, developed a way to use AI to automate meeting minutes. Instead of manually writing long notes, we now have:

  • Clear, concise summaries of every meeting

  • Action points for each team member

  • A logged history we can use to track progress and set future goals

This may sound small, but the impact is huge: it saves time, creates clarity, and ensures that everyone in the team stays aligned.

Building the Lay3rs AI Roadmap

The session didn’t just inspire us — it gave us a framework for the future. Together, we started sketching out a Lay3rs AI roadmap that will guide us in the months and years ahead.

Without giving away all the details, here’s what that means for our customers and community:
